What is Myofascial Cupping?
Myofascial cupping is a cupping technique using combined gliding and static cupping paired with active and passive stretches and fascia holds. The main goal of this technique is to reduce the amount of pressure to release a trigger point compared to your traditional Myofascial TrP techniques.
What are the Benefits of Myofascial Cupping?
Myofascial cupping uses less pressure to release a trigger point compared to the traditional hands-on “deep tissue” techniques we are used to using. Because of this, this cupping technique can help to relax the nervous system. It can also help to open up the smaller blood vessels called blood capillaries. Opening blood capillaries helps to bring newer, fresher blood to where the trigger point or “knot” is, and relieve tension in that area. Beware though, this will leave a bruise-like mark on the area where your therapist did the cupping at, but should go away within a few days.
Myofascial cupping also helps to promote improved flexibility and range of motion in the muscle, fascia, and even the joints (if you requested cupping on or around a joint). An added bonus is that your lymph system will flow easier due to the increased blood flow!
If that isn’t enough of a reason for you, cupping is simply fun for both the massage therapist and for the client. Be ready to brag and boast about your new “beauty marks” to friends and family alike.
Who Should NOT Get Cupping?
Anyone who is affected by the following conditions should not book a cupping session unless it is recommended by your primary care provider!
-organ failure
-blood clots, Deep Vein Thrombosis, Aneurysms, strokes, or seizures
-Hemophilia or taking any blood thinners/ anticoagulants
-edema/ lymph edema
-Uncontrolled asthma
- Varicose veins/ Spider veins
